Dune Awakening Server Manager

A self-hosted Dune: Awakening battlegroup gives you the world and very little to run it with. Takaro's sidecar reads the battlegroup itself and adds a player list, inventories, bans, teleports and a map, and an optional plugin adds live positions and kills.

v0.4.0 · released 18 Oct 2026

Free tier available. Self-hosted battlegroups only.

Sound familiar?

These are the problems Takaro was built to solve.

Heavy to host, light to manage

One map server wants around 16 GB of memory and a CPU with AVX2. When it is that expensive to run, you want to see what it is doing without logging into the box.

Few admin commands, locked behind a token

The game exposes only the GM commands you explicitly allow, behind a secret on each map server. Anything built on top has to work inside that list.

Many maps, one battlegroup

Hagga Basin, the Deep Desert and the social hubs are separate maps. A player list that does not know which one someone is on is not much of a player list.

Tracking

See where the spice hunters are

Player positions are plotted on the Hagga Basin map, calibrated by the connector from the server's own level data. You upload the map image, since the server contains none.

Inventories

Backpack and equipped gear

Inventories include the backpack and what is worn, and an item given from the dashboard arrives without a relog.

Dune: Awakening server management features

Every module works out of the box. Install, configure, done.

Sidecar reads the battlegroup

The sidecar reads the battlegroup's Postgres and game RabbitMQ and holds the connection to Takaro, so the game itself needs no mod to get a player list and inventories.

Optional native plugin

Preloaded onto the map server process only, it adds live positions, entity kills and detailed death causes. Without it, positions are the last saved ones.

Bans the connector enforces

Timed and permanent bans are enforced when a player joins, and expired ones drop off the list on their own. A kick lets the player reconnect.

Teleports and messages

Players can be teleported, with their position re-read afterward, and sent a private message. Broadcasts appear in a named on-screen panel, though their chat copy shows an empty sender.

Events queued through outages

If Takaro is unreachable, joins, leaves, chat and deaths are queued and delivered once after the connection returns.

Full REST API

Build your own tools on top of Takaro. Custom dashboards, Discord bots, integrations. Full API access on every plan, including free.

Cross-server management

Run Dune: Awakening alongside every other game Takaro supports from one dashboard, with player profiles shared across them.

Dune: Awakening server management FAQ

Does this work on Funcom-hosted servers?

No. It is for a self-hosted battlegroup with a Funcom self-hosting token, because the sidecar has to reach the battlegroup's Postgres and game RabbitMQ.

Is the plugin required?

No. The sidecar is required and the plugin is optional. The plugin adds live positions, entity kills and detailed death attribution.

Does shutdown work from Takaro?

Only with a stop script you provide. Dune's own shutdown command shows a countdown but does not stop the map process, so without that hook the connector reports shutdown as unavailable.

Which maps show on the Takaro map?

Hagga Basin. The Deep Desert and the social hubs carry their own map ids and are not declared yet.

Do players install anything?

No. Everything runs on the server side and players connect with the stock game client.

Can I manage multiple Dune: Awakening servers from one dashboard?

Yes. Add as many servers as your plan allows. The free tier includes one server; paid plans cover two to eight, all from a single dashboard.

Is Takaro a replacement for my server host?

No. Takaro is a management layer on top of the server you already run. You keep your hosting provider; Takaro connects to the server and adds economy, teleports, moderation and analytics.

Can I write custom modules?

Yes. Takaro modules are commands, hooks and cron jobs you can write yourself, and the REST API is open for anything a module cannot reach.

How much does it cost?

The free tier covers one server with every module included. Paid plans start at €7.99/month for two servers. See all plans.

Is Dune: Awakening support official?

Yes. Takaro builds, tests and releases this connector itself, with versioned releases and a documented install. Bugs go to the connectors repository.
